3d Modeling Programs

Post #1by pm » 29.10.2003, 18:53

Are there any good free or low cost 3d modeling tools that anyone is aware of that will export properly to .3ds. I have tried ac3d which is a nice program however it does not seem to export to .3ds appropriately for Celestia.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

You could do alot worse than choose anim8or which is available for downloading free at the following;

http://www.anim8or.com/main/

Jack Higgins has produced many good models using this program, check out his website;

Even I've managed to do a couple! It's quite easy to use and although the conversion to celestia is not 100% (ie no emissive / metalic effects) it still does a decent job.

Which also doesn't work worth a damn - Unless of course your genetically gifted with more brain cells than your average brain-dead geezer. (i.e. - Me!)

Anim8or is the only way to go unless you wish to pay out the nose for better software which comes with lots of thick manuals and tutorials.

Take care, Bob

Anim8or also has an excellent manual which is worth printing out.
