New Chandra X-Ray Observatory ssc and model

Post #1by JackHiggins » 03.06.2003, 21:40

Hey all

Heres a model of the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, and an earth-orbit ssc. It has a nice new solar panel texture too... Download from http://homepage.eircom.net/~jackhiggins/celestia/ (#21 in Spacecraft) but check out a few screenshots first:

nice work, like always :D

i loved the first picture, 'cause i see not only the your new model, but also the place where I was born!

what texture are you using?? in all the textures that i have, the River Plate(it doesnt look like a river, is that "water triangle" between argentina and uruguay) is not water, in all my textures it is land.

That earth texture is an 8k dds from t00fri's Texture Foundry, with a 4k dds spec map (texfoundry), an 8k png bumpmap (converted from texfoundry jpg) and a 2k dds cloudmap I made myself from the blue marble site http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?11643 (although it's pretty much the same as the texfoundry one)

One of the new features in Celestia 1.3.1pre3 is "wildcard texture filetypes"
This means that you can use a lores jpeg and a hires dds file for the same object.

So long as the name is the same and there aren't any other files with the same name, the new version of Celestia will load the different image files.

For example, data\solarsys.ssc now has in it
Texture "earth.*"

So you now can have the surface texture files
lores\earth.jpg
medres\earth.png
hires\earth.dds

and the "r" and "R" commands will switch among them with no problems.

selden: about the ".*" i have already read.
and about making the lowres medres hires, i also thought, but puting the 3 textures in the same format, so now I can make it with different texture format. i will try it.
thanks!
