Jupiter Animated Atmosphere (2020)

Post #1by MrSpace43 » 30.01.2020, 00:06

So I have been watching BBC's "The Planets (1999)" and I saw that they made Jupiter's clouds move in their animations, so I tried to remake that in Celestia, but unfortunately, multiple cloud layers is not a thing, so I have to go through trial and error. Sometimes the clouds don't show up because they are smaller than the planet, or the clouds are elevated too high and exceed the atmosphere.

I'm using FarGetaNik's Jupiter.

You can base it off this addon (though I see you’ve already posted in that thread).
My Addons: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=19978 • Discord server admin
Celestia versions: 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.7.0, and some unofficial versions like Celestia-ED

I did use that, and tried to modify it a bit, but I still have bad results.

I personally think Jupiter's stripes should have a more vivid orange color, like in this recent Hubble image of the planet:

I'm also going to make a thread on the signature colors of the planets.

Joey P. - this is true, this image of Jupiter does have more orange stripes - however hubble has poorly matched filters and this image is not in true color.
For example here's textures by FarGetaNik and Askaniy that displays the true colors of Jupiter:

Oh. But I would prefer a far more colorful Jupiter and think of the planet as looking like that.

You’re not getting a colorful Jupiter, because realism is what I am going for, and a “colorful” Jupiter is not realistic.
