Relativistic effects
Relativistic effects
Hi there me again, I noticed when travelling at fractions of the speed of light on Celestia true relativistic effects aren't shown. The clock slows down, but on a real craft travelling at them speeds the clock would appear normal and (I think ) you see things streak past the window, or at least pass quickly by. The question is, is it possible to recreate relativistic effects on Celestia ? Again I stress as in my last post I know nothing of computer programming and I'm not a physicist, I just think it would be very cool to travel at the close the speed of light as it would really appear sat in the space craft

Re: Relativistic effects
You realise this would mean limiting the observer to speeds slower than light, right?
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Re: Relativistic effects
I've wondered whether we could get this kind of thing into Celestia, but my OpenGL knowledge is less than minimal.

I was thinking maybe more along the lines of a script, similar to the Celestia explorer. You could maybe limit the speed, and to get somewhere quicker speed the time up. I've seen a representation of travelling at the near the speed of light and things are supposed to visually distort, in a way that is difficult to explain in words.
