5261 Eureka : The first known Martian Trojan

Post #1by Chuft-Captain » 01.04.2009, 22:49

Since then, other Mars Trojans have been identified; namely 1999 UJ7 at the L4 point and 1998 VF31, 2001 DH47, 2001 FG24, and 2001 FR127 at the L5 point) , but I have only found ephemeris for one of those so far (1998 VF31).

Code: Select all

You can use HORIZONS to get ephemerides for all of these bodies:

http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons.cgi#top

HORIZONS will generate either elliptical elements or state vectors (position + velocity) that you can use to create an xyzv file for Celestia.

Thanks,

Will look into that approach.

Meanwhile, here's the second one:

Code: Select all

NOTE: I've also updated the Eureka one in the first post to use a more appropriate naming convention ... (I think)

OK,

Here's all (6) of the currently discovered Martian Trojans (AFAIK) using the HORIZONS generated ephemerides.

(Includes a couple of quick scripts to mark them.)
