I found some spectra images to work with here - BeSS Database. Their selection was limited to spectra of Be stars, a few thousand samples of various stars over a number of years time (amateur observations mostly). Still, it gave me a base to work with. I suppose any spectra would work, but I thought using star spectra would be unique for a Celestia project... every star's spectra is unique (yes?), as will be the resulting banding.
This first sample is of Mars with rings. The spectra used came from file BeSS_11p014.fits which is a star (if I recall) in the Cas group. The colors used were pulled right from the medres Mars image (a few I selected and airbrushed in).

This second sample is of Venus with rings. The spectra used here came from file _hd2789_20081024_910.fits, which is of course star HD 2789. Again, the colors used were pulled right from the medres Venus image (as before).

I have several variations (templates if you will) that I've created thusfar from these various spectra. I have more in the works. If anyone has use for them give a shout and I'll post a resource for downloading the png's. All you'll need to do is edit and add color.
