[Release] StarWarSaga: Episode 1, a complete SW universe

Post #1by Jeam Tag » 31.10.2005, 22:29

Hello Celestians,
Some times ago, I have spoke about a great StarWars Universe by Jean-Marie le Cosp?©rec [aka Linuxman on this forum, who can't acceed for the moment :( ].
The first opus of 'StarWarSaga, Episode 1' is now downloadable on the CML: http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/fic_starwars.php
Many Thanks Adirondack!

It is compiled like this:

'StarWarSaga_Ep1.zip' ~180Mb.
The basic package which installs all the necessary addons in an 'extras' sub repertory :
Planetary textures are png 1k (lores) to 4k (hires) and a lot of particular addons relating to Coruscant, Naboo and Tatooine in this episode.

'SWS1-Hiresdds.zip' ~290Mb.
For big engines: you can replace the png textures of these three planets by dds textures 4k to 16k.

and,

'SWS1-Scripts' ~70Kb (For Celestia 132 and 140pre).
A complete ( ~30mn) script (but also 4 partitions of it, ~8mn each) that summarizes the history of Episode I, and presents some of the installed addons.
These scripts are only in French, for the moment, sorry: we have to be sure that they're working as well as possible (and no typo!) before completing a good English version. You can try them to point eventually bugs in, please.
Have fun!

Will proper download links be forth coming. Not reading French its a bit difficult to figure out if it can even be downloaded as of yet.

Don.
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

Wow Jem Tag, and you have done all that stuff without saying one word to the list up to now? :o
Absolutely exciting, being an old fan of StarWars I can't wait to find it in MotherLode.
Thank you.

Well,
I don't know when it will be placed in the new addons pages in the CML. About French (in the packs) , I have tried some translations of the Install and Readme files (and little explanations for the CML download pages...). I don't think language is a difficulty to run the addons (French names are quite similar of the English ones: but C6-PO, Palais royal de Theed, princesse Amidala etc...). This is a little problems for the script, but as I said, we will try an English version when we are sure that there are no bugs in it: first goal is to run well this 'little movie'...

Andrea: Yes I have speaking about the long work by Linuxman in many threads about SW here for years ago. (it was in this cases i created the first SWSaga pages on my catalog, 2003 I guess.
I'm not the author, but a beta tester : Linuxman created his stuff (essentially dds textures for his own creation and retexturing) on a big configuration, good graphic card, I tested to make the addon run on more little config with max 2k png text in the basic medres folder for example....

Jeam, IMHO a team work is the best way to make big stuff.
Well done, my compliments to both of you. :P

Hello all,
About Starwarsaga, it seems we have missed a little comment in the "Readme". If you don't use the .cel file, You can find manually the first three planets and all the related addons near another stars that other Star Wars addons.
Here they are:

For Coruscant you must go to HIP 79607
For Tatooine and Naboo you must go to HD 144287

Have fun and Sorry again!

Hello Jean-Marie, a lot of time indeed from last post.
I've been involved in Solar System scripts/textures in the last months, so I had only a brief general look at Episode I of your StarWars Saga, and was astonished by the number/quality of ships/textures/models involved in your project. :o
But, to be absolutely sincere, my first impression has been that it is "too much", i.e. you have tried to go so deep in the history/environment and involved personages, that to see all the Episode you need almost the same time needed to see the original movie.
This is why I say "too much".
In my long experience on astronomy shows, I learned two most important things:
1- any kind of show or speech (dedicated to not involved people) must be short, or very short, possibly no more that 15-20 minutes;
2- it must involve the audience.
Well, IMHO the Episode I reaches the second goal, but not the first one, due to its length.
Sorry for my sincerity, but as I told it's only my humble opinion on the matter.
Anyhow, now that I've almost finished working on Solar System, will take as next approach the StarWars Saga Episode II, and inform on results.
Bye and... thank you, obviously.
Bye

Andrea :D

P.S. your English in not worst than mine...

Hello Jean-Marie, I found a little bug in your Naboo_Royalship model from StarWarSaga Episode II.
In the image below you can see the three "holes", visible only when looking from the back of the ship, pointed by the black arrows.
Dunno if it's an easy change or not, so please give a look and decide yourself.
BTW, your Coruscant is absolutely wonderful!
Bye and thank you for all that stuff.

I made other good texture from the star wars universe, i spend a long time to the night texture from coruscant but if i remember there is the pinch effect on poles.
I also started the last 3 episodes
Have you seen the others good textures on my site ?
I have to finish all that stuff..

Hello Andrea. For a long time I have not seen this addon! Could you send me this mesh or give me his name, tomorrow I must go to Paris for Christmas, but perhaps I will have the time today.
Hello Jean-Marie, the mesh is:
StarWarSaga-Ep. 1/FirstTrilogy/NabooRoyalStarship/models/naboroyal.3ds
Sorry, in my previous message I wrote it was from Ep. 2, I was wrong, it's from Ep. 1!
linuxm@n wrote:I made other good texture from the star wars universe, i spend a long time to the night texture from Coruscant but if i remember there is the pinch effect on poles. I also started the last 3 episodes. Have you seen the others good textures on my site ?
Sure, Jean-Marie, I saw all of them because I'm a "silent runner", I mean I download ALL the new stuff as it's available in Motherlode and CM, and when I have the need to use it, I open the files and check the models, as for the RoyalStarShip.
You can read posts from me only if I find something that needs the author's attention, like now.
Yes, Coruscant has pinch effect at poles, but the defect is not so evident, due to the interest of the populated surface areas.
And, BTW, I had some doubt about the colour of the RoyalStarShip, because I was remembering a blue colour, not grey, so I've seen once again the movie # 1, and the colour is neither blue nor grey, because the ship is made of a very reflective, almost specular metal, polished and without seams, that reflects perfectly the colours of what's around it, so when on the ground it looks blue (the sky color!), as I remembered.
Is there any possibility to give it the "shining" effect?
linuxm@n wrote:I have to finish all that stuff. Thank you. Linuxman
You are VEY welcome, Jean-Marie, cannot wait to see the SW 4-5-6- episodes as you'll finish them.
Thanks a lot for all you are doing, with very very interesting results.
