Streaks on Earth

When I installed Celestia 1.51 over the previous version 1.50 there are now streaks on certain parts of the Earth.
And I like to know how can I get rid of them?

This type of problem usually is caused by outdated and buggy graphics drivers. Please update your graphics drivers to the most recent version available for your graphics hardware. They're available for free on the Web site of the manufacturer of your hardware.

If that doesn't help, please provide the details of your operating system, graphics hardware and graphics driver version number. Also, please upload a screenshot of the problem, using the "upload attachment" field, which is below the message entry field when you reply to this.

p.s. installing a new version of Celestia "on top of" a previous version sometimes can cause problems. It's best to un-install the previous version first.

Alternatively, you can rename the old Celestia directory to (e.g.) celestia_old and then install the new version to the default directory. You then can run either version and move your addons from the old directory to the new one at your convenience.

For what it's worth here, Selden's explanation concerning the renaming of old directories has always worked fine for me, especially under Vista. Like he also says, you can use previous versions of textures files, extra add-ons, etc. simply by copying them to the new installation. If all is then well, and you don't need the older version, you can always simply delete its program folder when you are happy with the new installation.

Yes, it is great that Celestia doesn't modify any system directories. You can just copy it without having to install it. You can even have it on an external disk. And you can have it "installed" as many times as you want on the same system, of course, as long as there is enough free space on your disk. This is excellent for trying different combinations of add-ons or for testing specific features between different versions...

Great and simple concept.
