Evolving textures

Now that the cyclone tidal planat has been completed my next challege is to create a planet who still rotates but quite slowly allowing its dark side to undergo a long winter but as the planet rotates its sea unfreezes and it land becomes green again while the side that goes dark freezes.

Could this be achived through the use of a gif image or other animation texture, or could celestia be made to shift between textures?

Celestia does not yet support animated textures.

One would have to define separate objects using Beginning and Ending directives.

The new Timeline directives could be used with this, if you're compiling Celestia from the SVN repository on SourceForge.

The Beginning and Ending directives can be used to produce a somewhat jumpy animation sequence- like the one available for Earth showing continental drift. I did make a long sequence for the OA planet Arcadia showing summer and winter textures, but so many alternating large textures was kind of hard on the computer.

Umm i see, well that wouldnt work well but it might have to do as it would take me as long as making a whole 2048x1024 gif image that would need to show a seamless scene without showing where it repeats.
