Jeeez I'm trying to play Quake III Arena, I wonder why I am lagging like hell, roll on over to the server and wow, look at all these people connected to my FTP server... :)

My server is up 24hours a day, obviously though if it's full usually a web browser will just bang up some old page not saying much.

Wonder how long it is before people start complaining of CRC errors... *sigh*.

Someone on this board most have some large pipes!!!

just put them into the medres texture folder
and re-name the the name of the teture in the Solasys.ssc file
from jpg, or png. to dds

eg:

"Earth" "Sol"
{
Texture "earth.dds"
NightTexture "earth-night.dds"
Color [ 0.85 0.85 1.0 ]
SpecularColor [ 0.5 0.5 0.55 ]
SpecularPower 25.0
HazeColor [ 1 1 1 ]
HazeDensity 0.3
Radius 6378
# Oblateness 0.003

Atmosphere {
Height 80
Lower [ 0.5 0.5 0.65 ]
Upper [ 0.3 0.3 0.6 ]
Sky [ 0.3 0.6 0.9 ]
CloudHeight 9
CloudSpeed 1000
CloudMap "earth-clouds.dds"

Does the png contain the specular map? I think the textures look great, but i notice that the land reflectes in the same way as the water when i set the texture as dds. This makes the deserts too bright. Also, are there any higher res cloud textures to compliment the excellent land map?

The 16k DDS earth file at the top of the page, has everything in it
earth textures, bumpmap, and Alpha blending (if thats what its called)

Im useing that file and I dont get reflections on land.
should unzip to about 43meg

Its working now I just tried it

as I said this ftp site is working most hours of the day, but not all.

Can I get the big textures working with my Rage 128 card?

HI folks. I've been anxious to try out these new beautiful textures for earth in .dds format. Unfortunately, I've discovered that my ATI Rage 128 Pro video card will not display them, even though I do have a 32 MG graphic memory. Someone suggested that it may be due to the drivers not yet up to the capability of displaying dds.

Is there ANY way I get use .dds files in Celestia with my Rage 128 Pro card? Alternatively, is there any free software that will convert a .dds file to either a .png or a .jpg file so my video card will be able to display them?

Has anyone already converted the dds files to jpg or png and would be willing to share them with us Celestia lovers out here?

Thanks in advance.

fsgregs.

I belive the card itself can not support the format. not to mention the ATI Rage 128 Pro is not excatly OpenGL friendly. I you can, i would just recomend upgrating your video card. you will experienc far fewer headachs with them. i would recomend the Gforce4 or Radeon 9000+ series, you should be able to find one for under $200

I'm trying to get them my self (I fed the links into wget) and I'm having trouble. My wget isn't going to give up but I'd like to take a look at them sometime soon.

I'd be glad to mirror them. (I only have a 40k upstreem though - but it's steady - treats me well) and I'd like to know if there are any other mirrors.

I've only been able to get through once and I wasn't able to retrive the whole file nor get speeds over 2k/s.

Is there larger earthnight dds files than 8k? Maybe 16k?
Or earthcloud_dds-files like 8k or somthing!

Do you know where I can find it?

Wow thats the one
I missed it as I didn't think 27 megs could compress down to 1.1meg

thanks Ortolan, that is the Night textures I'm using now.
I cant wait till Chris corrects the night side showing on the day side.
