In the distant future... The Earth is underwater!
No, it's not another disaster movie, it's my new Celestia Earth texture. It's based on the possible scenario of the ice caps melting and raising sea levels. I used a bump map of Earth to select the highest areas, then used the mask on a 2k Earth texture and bluified the rest. Simple, eh? Download it here.
Note - unless I run to the hills (of Scotland) i'm doomed, according to the map. How about you?

RE: Your Furture Earth
That looks pretty good. Now if you could take into effect the wieght of water on tectonicly active zones it would probably change your map some more. The wieght of water pushing down on the contenents would cause eclusions of magma at the weaker plate boundries and there would be numorous new islands and mountain ranges coming up here and there. Just though I would through that in. That was one of the reasons why the idea behind the movie WaterWorld was so stupid. #1 there isn't enough water on the planet to sink every land mass let alone stop volcanoes from building new islands. Then lets not even get into the fact that the suns radiation and brightness output is increasing as time goes by. Those same oceans are going to start to evaporate away. Earth will probably be as cloud covered as Venus in a few more million years and it will get hotter than hell here as well. It looks like my future mars is the place to move.
P.S. How about reworking this again and saving it as a bitmap or png. Your image is good but there is a great deal of color distortion in the oceans around whats left of the landmasses. It would look alot sharper and cleaner that way.

RE: Flooded Earth
Heres a quick pic I took of a modified Sum0's flooded earth texture. I did a quick and dirty specmap for it and through it all together with Gimp and Photoshop. This is looking down over Africa of course. Take a look.

Its not my greatest work but Sum0's Jpg image needs a little tweaking in order to get the specmaps right and clean up the coastlines. All in all it was a fun little 30minute job. All for fun and Sum0 gets all credit for a neat idea.

That looks great! I would have added a specular map... but I don't know how...
I don't think you'll see a 8K version because my 56k modem would mean it'd take aaaaages, but i'll attempt a 4K version. A grayscale 8k would be possible though, but what would be the point?
BTW, does anyone know where I can find info about the extent of the ice age southwards?

Aaaaaaah ! The whole of Wales is underwater !!!!
That was one of the reasons why the idea behind the movie WaterWorld was so stupid.
Maybe so, but it was a good movie !
Very interesting map, but I'm not too worried about this global warming lark (at least not for sea level rises). Living on a hill, I'd be more worried about glaciation - how about a map showing the Earth during the last ice age ?
