Another NormalMap question

Hi,
I need a confirmation. I have tested a normalmap from motherlode (8k) and the result is not so good... Seems that I get more details with a classic bumpmap... Is it possible or one more time is my MX fault?
By the way someone knows a way to create normalmaps on osX ? (the NVIDIA plugin for photoshop is PC only...)
