A sun texture and (fiction) Planet textures

Hello!

I am creating a space shooter and I am looking for some (free) textures for the sun and some planets. I found PlanetGen, which is a great (free) tool for creating planet textures. But they look a bit to 'colorful', ma planets look too much like plastic with them. Are there any other good tools to create planet textures, and does anybody know how to create a texture for sun?

Too bad I don't have photoshop, but maybe there is some freeware or free textures over there?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Have you heard of Lunarcell? It's a plugin that works with paint programs such as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. I use it to aid in making some of my more recent planets, moons and whatever else. I can't remember the exact address, but type "Lunarcell" in Google and you should be able to find it.

If you get used to the handy functions of your paint programs you can make realistic looking planets without being as dependant on plugins like these.

Hello,

thanks for the hint, the screens looked very good, so I downloaded it.
But since I don't have Photoshop or Paintshop I can't seem to use it.

I am not the graphician (is this the right word?) but only the programer,
so I don't have any graphic software installed but the Gimp. :D
I tried to install it with the gimp but it doesn't seem to work.

So I guess I should get a trial of photoshop or paintshop?

But since we have so many talented and knowledged planet-designers here, maybe someone can make me some planet textures, a sun and a cloud texture for a credit in our game?

If somebody is interested, here a link to some (very old) screenshots and to the forum. If somebody is interested in joining our team or to help us out with some textures, please let me know.

Hello,

Lunarcell is great and works fine. I made a trial texture, looked good.

Thanks!

Firle

P.S.: How can I make a sun texture? Can I do this also with Lunarcell (doesn't seem to work very well) or is there another easy way to make a sun texture?

DON'T use Photoshop trial because this limited version of Photoshop can't save nothing you do.

I don't think he meant he had the trial version of Photoshop, I think he was just saying that he tried out Lunarcell by making a "trial" texture.

Hi!

I downloaded a trial of Paintshop Pro. It does save the images.
I only don't know how to make a sun texure now.

Thanks for the infos.

You can get SolarCell form the same place you get Lunarcell (Flaming Pear's website), it helped me make my star texture.
