Celestia and great (big) Datafiles

Hello Celestians,
i have a very bad english, so i translated from my german language via google to english. I hope you can understand the most of it.
I am new here in the forum, experiments however already for 3 months with Celestia (best which I saw ever). Now I downloaded Datafiles from the site of Mr. Stockli/NASA: (ftp://mitch.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/stockli/bluemarble/) (the large data files with 600MB). In each case 1.2 GB reach the data size in the unpacked condition. Once for the east and one for the western hemnisphaere. I stored it with Photoshop as JPG. They are now still 105MB largely. But Celestia cannot load these files (vers. 1.4). I always get the error message < Microsoft Visual basic Script error >. Celestia is then terminated. -- gives it a border with the data size? Perhaps someone else has this problem, or I am the only crazy person where download so big data sets.
My hardware: Intel P4/2,7GHZ - 1024 MB RAM - ATI 9700Pro/128 MB
It would be beautifully if someone could help me

ps: t00fri ? i saw that you are an german Celstian with large experience

Meine Hardware: Intel P4/2,7GHZ - 1024 MB RAM - ATI 9700Pro/128 MB

The Blue Marble texture is avaliable as VT for celestia - that means in form of small tiled parts, which can easily be loaded with most graphic cards. If you can't get it on motherlode, just try the forums search function.

Obviously your graphic card failed to load the texture into it's memory (where it has to reside unpacked) - which is not surprising, as the cards with 2.4 GB of video memory are still rather rare ;)

Why this resulted in a 'Microsoft Visual Basic Script Error' is a secret to me. That seems to be special to your computers settings. Perhaps the whole action has simultaneously killed a trojan, floating around on your system? (Ok, just kidding :) )

Big Texturefiles

Thank you for the answer!

Ok, but all Files I found are smaller as the files i downloadet from the FTP-Server.
My files are 21600px * 21600px for east, and another for the west hemnisphere. Is there a way to split this map into smaller parts like the files on motherlode/earth ? Is there a program to do this, and what must be scripted in the ssc-Files?

I think the explained files was also somehow produced. Or think i not in the right way?

It would be super, if I could the files re-use. I would like to simulate flights in 100 km height between different cities, and the dissolution of 1km=1px is ideal in addition.

Friendly greetings from Weil der Stadt (home of J.Kepler)

Do you really want to do this? Others have done exactly that before, using the same files you got. To work in Celestia, the texture has to be rescaled to either 32768x16384 or 65536x32768 (i.e. "32K" or "64K"), and complete textures for Celestia with these resolutions are available at the Celestia Motherlode (I'd recommend Jestr's Earth Mark II).
