Greetings list. Im VERY impressed by this little piece of software, congrats to all the developpers.

I've got pretty good hardware, so I figured I could 'upgrade' Celestia somewhat to enhanced the experiences.

I downloaded the complete VT from http://celestia.h-schmidt.net/earth-vt/, in hope of getting the same effect of the screenshots posted on the website itself.

I downloaded the unshaded ground texture, the normal map, the spec map, the nightlights and finally, the cloud map. I also followed the instructions in each packages, by placing all data in the extras/ folder, except for the cloud map, that I put directly into textures/hires. I also modified solarsys.ssc, to set CloudSpeed to '0'.

When starting Celestia and right-clicking on the Earth, i've got those 4 choices in Alternate Surfaces : Normal, Earth 32k Nightlights+Spec, Earth 32k Normalmap+Nightlights+Spec and Gray earth Normalmap+Specmap.

In any case, coulds dont show up, neither the the nightlights. When zooming in however, i can clearlly see the different levels of details, with a small lag when moving to each inner levels (textures loading in, i suppose).

I've got a ATI Radeon 9600XT, on a P4 2.6 with 700+ MB RAM.

Any pointers ?

Thanks a bunch, I really want this thing going ; )

Did you see clouds before installing the new clouds texture? If not, you have to enable cloud rendering (press "i", or check the menu). If you can see the old clouds, but not the high resolution ones, then try changing texture resolution (press r and shift-r).
For the nightlights, check if you enabled nightlights-rendering by pressing CTRL-L. If this doesn't help, try changing the renderpath (CTRL-V), If I remember correctly not all renderpaths support this...

ftrudeau,

you must be quite spoiled with gigantic software packages if you characterize Celestia with

this little piece of software

We talk of a package of about 14 MB and really lots of sophisticated C++ code files...
