Quick and Dirty Textures #1

Okay, I'm fiddling around with pretty simple textures mainly as a way to practice and refine my "painting" technique (such as it is). This is the first such effort (you'll have to cut and paste the link into your browser address bar):

The original image came from a medium resolution satellite shot of Israel and the Sinai peninsula. This particular image will be for the world of Igom, orbiting Tau Ceti. However, I still need to refine some of the climatological aspects of the map, such as ice and vegetation cover.
Much later, as I slowly learn to utilize all of the aspects of Celestia, I'll add bump maps, etc., as well as an upgrade to this basic map itself, so as to make it look a bit more realistic.
This image is meant for my sci fi setting, the ArcBuilders Universe, which I hope to make a Celestia verion of. But if anyone wishes to use it (thinking mainly of those who *don't* have a good graphics card), feel free.
I modified this image using Paint Shop Pro 8, first seemlessly tiling it, and then putting it through a cylindrical filter.
