Just thought i?d share this; it?s odd and beautiful at the same time
I was moving around beneath the cloudlayer to check out coloring and texture effects on a gas giant i am working on for my solsys, and suddenly got a look at the stars through the cloud layer with the sun shining through it, occulted by the ring system. At first i thought it was a bug, it was so unlike anything i had expected.
It looks extremely interesting - this effect happens when the sun is shining through the png cloudfile; else the colors are much less intensive.
Has anyone else experimented with gas clouds? I wonder how good it might look if i moved the cloud png up to 8k, (this is 2k, with an 8k surface) but my hardware won?t go that far - and a virtual texture of png?s does not seem to work?
