Dear all ,
If you have a vast universe to populate quickly and prettily....
or
You have a myriad of worlds in need of textures
or
(like me) you have the artistic skills of a blind whelk
Fractal Terrains Pro has been released. Not only does it produce world maps that are less 'fractal' than before, it has a number of other features:
1/ The gaia map - useful for quick and dirty production of earthlike textures that actually look rather earthlike
2/ River functions - allows generation of rivers (duh), which actually follow the landforms
3/ Lake and Basin fill - Finds the enclosed low points on a map, and fills 'em (duh again)
It receives my heartiest recommendation.
here's a sample:
Yes, I know it doesn't have fold mountains and continental drift effects, but its very pretty
(and I don't get a kickback from Profantasy, so there! )
Cheers,
Cormoran

Hello Maxim,
Heightmaps? Heightmaps you say?
Fractal Terrains can output heightmaps in a variety of formats (the one I use most is the MDR format used by Wilbur). Very handy for Bump mapping. Also, one of the base views of FT is an altitude map (where you can define the colour of each altitude range to your taste). It even does a first pass at vegetation types, temperature and rainfall.
Worth every penny, as far as I'm concerned, and VERY handy for the Gamemaster of a Space campaign, if that's what floats your boat. It'll even produce a good old Icosahedral projection for players of Traveller, 2300 AD and GURPS Space.
Cheers,
Cormoran
