I just found out about Celestia last week. I think thi is absolutely one of the coolest apps I've seen yet. I can spend countless hours just zooming arround the galaxy looking for, well... who knows what.

I have read about these add ons, but would like some help... can some one recomend some great add ons and add on sites... and maybe help me out with how to install/use them.

Many Thanks

-9mm (ouT)

I'll help you

First try Earth Central here to get the most deatailed earth you think you can handle. Then try here and here to get you started. There is so much more out there so make sure you hav some free time.

It really depends on what KIND of add-ons you want (planet textures, spacecraft, moons, trajectory files, etc.).

Selden's List of Resources for Celestia is a good "general" place to start that lists many other sites by category: http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/

Also, the Celestia Web Ring Index: http://mostlyharmless.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/ringlink/list.pl?ringid=celestia

Have fun exploring all there is to add to Celestia!

Unfortunatly telling anyone to go to Earth Central is not going to do any good.
The site is sort of down. I haven't as yet fixed all the links for the downloads yet do to the shatters.net server ip address change. I will get to it this weekend I hope.
Here is the right address for the site
http://216.231.48.101/~impulse/Earth_Ce ... ntral.html

If you see anything you want to download you will have to copy the link to another window or tab depending what browser you are using and change the
63.224.48.65 section of the hyperlink to 216.231.48.101 and you should be able to download the files. I know it is a pain but I completely forgot that since the site lives on the shatters.net server the change of ip would have a cascade effect on my sites.

9mm>> here is a direct link to Don. Edwards 16k Earth, This texture is near perfection. Impessive and Realistic. I just wait for the birthday of Don's 32k version some day in a near future =)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9mm>> If you find big 8k/16k "single textures" slowing down your system then you should defenitly give "virtual textures" a try.

32k Virtual Earth Texture, The details and resolution are great, but the coloring and sea-details are just not in the same caliber quality as Don's texture,

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

also check Johns Celestia Page, lots of great Virual and Single textures,
The jupiter moon textures are amazing. all in 8k with normal maps.

Note! that website is not up 24h/day because its a personal server, If you fail to connect, just try again a few Hrs later.

good luck.

Hello,
My illustrated catalogue (see my www sig) is not completely updated, but links hundreds of addons. (Hope authors will announce me in pm defective links or addons that they don't want to see there any more appearing)
It seems to me like a good base to make its choice according to what someone looks for: I made it because some years ago i have similar questions like your, 9mmm
And as I have already say, the language (French) can't disturb: images and weblinks are universals. If it can help, Jeam
