First Try at a Planet Texture

Well, here's my first shot at making a planet. I am trying to do a very primative planet, still in its "volcanic" stage.
Tell me what you think. Am I on the right track?
Thanks

It looks better than what I can do...
Really, it looks very nice!

The surface looks great. Really chaotic and protean. Do I detect a hint of sulphur in the surface colouring?
I would presume (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that such a world would have a very cloudy, sooty atmosphere from all the particulates thrown out by all that vulcanism.
Very nice work!
Cheers,
Cormoran

I hope your texture is 2048 x 1024. Is it ?
Please, can I have it ? I need a texture for another planet, and I can't find any original one of high quality.
A suggestion

Very impressive. Is this Lunacell?
Some suggestions that might improve the planet even more - from
someone who's admittedly not at the stage of planet building from scratch
at this point in my texture hobby.
Consider adding a bit more color variation to the night lights/lava layer -
right now it looks like all lava is of the same chemical composition and
temperature.
Sooty clouds (as mentioned before) would add interest.

Thanks for all the comments and ideas.
I did use LunarCell to create it, and message around with the colors a bit from the original.
As for the color compositions, I never put that much thought into what materials would create what colors. To be honest, I'm not that smart. I just played with the colors until I got something that I thought looked good.
It's a 4000x2000 image, but I could alter it if a different size works for anyone. On that note, does it matter to Celestia if the textures are not sized to a binary size? I mean, is 4000x2000 okay, or does it have to be 4096x2048?
And the reflection of the light on the lava beds is just me being lazy with the texturing in Max.
Thanks again. I'm going to keep working on this and we'll see where it goes. I'll put it up on a server so that people can get to it.
Thanks
Mike

I know that Celestia likes textures to be in powers of 2...and I believe(maybe incorrectly) that the ratio must be 2 horizontal: 1 vertical...
