...but I can't find it! Could somebody tell me where could I download it? I've got 16k version but it's not enough for me
. Thanks in advance. By the way, is the 16k Moon texture the most detailed available?

Hi. 32K textures are very big and difficult to download by most people, or even to distribute by free web hosting. I have made my own, from the images of Blue Marble Earth (
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/BlueMarble/, you have to ask permission to download the full resolution images). It is nice to make your own VT, you learn a thing or two. I have used the image manipulation command line utilities that come with Image Magick, a free software, which use far less memory than Photoshop or similar programs. I am even creating a 64K version, since the Blue Marble are 42K images and the 32K textures lose some detail. (Oh, I believe somebody else spoke about this in some other thread.)
Anyway, the only 32K Earth VT available online is that of Walton Comer, which the ocenas a little too green for my taste, which used to be found at Figueiredo site:
http://www.marfig.com/celestia/, but today is not responding.
Greetings,
Guillermo

I don't know for sure whether it's the same, but there is a Bluemarble VT (bm_vtex.zip) at
http://exp.arc.nasa.gov/downloads/celestia/extras/
(I guess NASA can afford hosting it
I haven't tried it myself...

Oops! Of course they exist! I didn't read your post well, I thought you were talking about normal maps (that is all I can think about now)

I like how nasa put together a download for Celestia that included a 32k blue marble and high-res mars.. my textures\hires dir is currently about 2 gigs
but yeah, anyone thinking about downloading nasa's blue_vt.zip, here's a preview (so you can see if you like it first.. click for 2kx1k version):

OK, that's what I wanted, I'm downloading it now, thanks a lot
. Question to Jestr - there's something strange about your 64k JPG version, the zip with 0-5 levels is about 120MB and 6-10 levels - about 60MB!? How is it possible? Higher level is always bigger... I'm able to download your 64k version to,, but first I'd like to know what's wrong
I'mm looking for VT textures for other planets too, I have Mercury, Earth, Mars and Moon already. Do you know anything else?

There seems to be no free texture of the entire world available,so I have started making my own from aerial photos available elsewhere. This is patchy however so my level 10 is only south England and a few US cities, thats why it is smaller-level10 for the whole world would be huge, possibly TerraBytes of data.Cheers Jestr

I understand. Well, I'll download 6-10 then. Great job, and please, make hi-res version of Poland next time

If you know of say a polish map site that has aerial photos of Poland,or anywhere else I'll do it but so far I only know of 'Multimap.com'which only has photos for part of UK,and 'Mapquest.com' which has photos for bits of USA but these are all different hues so dont look that great when I mosaic them, cheers Jestr

Jestr, are your DDS and JPG/PNG earths are in differnet seasons?

No they are all made from the same original map which I made by superimposing the sea from the 43k BlueMarble flat texture over the 43k Blue Marble shaded bathymetry texture,so as to give an impression of sea depths and add texture to the sea. Then I added a North Pole from the 10k Earth photo texture at Space Graphics site.I think the Blue Marbles were compiled from data around September-October 2001 .Cheers Jestr
It doesn't work :(

Jestr, I just downloaded your JPG texture... and it doesn't work, I don't know why... I put jestrmarble JPG.ctx to hires directory, unpacked both ZIP fiels and copied all levels to jestrmarble directory.
I made neccesary modification in solarsys.ssc... and all I can see is blue
I've got Athlon 1800+, GeForce2 MX 400, Celestia 1.3.1, 256MB RAM
Any idea what's going on?

Hi Thomas, you could try making a new ctx file for it .I dont know why but when somebody else downloaded my Mars texture the ctx was causing problems-though it worked fine for me.Hope you get it working, cheers Jestr
