Earth Central cloudmap problem

Hello,
I've just downloaded the beautiful 16k .dds Earth (thank you Don). However, the .dds cloudmap from the same web site isn't working for me - ie, it's just a 'white globe'. Am I missing something / some file ?
My other cloud maps work fine - including another earth-clouds.dds file I've used.
Thanks,
Paul

You could be running out of video memory. I will check the file to make sure it is working right.
Also make sure that while you are using .dds textures that you do not have the line CompressTexture true in your .ssc file.

The problem is realy out of video memory. I have downloaded this textures and I had the same problem whit my GeForce2 32Mb. I thik this occur 'cause the sum of RAM memory and video Memory is less than sum of bytes maps. Sorry may poor english

Paul L,
Also if you only have 32mb of VRAM consider dropping down to the 8k texture in order to be able to use all the textures layered.

Actually the 16k .dds earth file works fine on my system (P4 2.4, 1gig Ram, 64 Meg GForce) as does a 2.6 meg (2k ?) .dds cloud file. I'll try the 4k .dds clould file together with the 8k earth .dds and see if it works.
Thanks,
Paul

I tried a small earth.png file with the 4k .dds cloud file and still got a white globe. The 2k .dds cloud file I have seems to work fine with the 16k .dds earth. No biggie - just slightly annoying.
Thanks,
Paul

Hmmm.
What class GeForce4 do you have. Is it an MX or TI. If its an MX board than it may be limited but I don't see how. Celestia should just scale the 4k cloudmap down to 2k for you.
Ok, I am now downloading the file back down from the server to check it against the master cloudmap. If its bad I will have it repaced within an hour or so.
Has anyone else reading this thread have any problem with the 4k .dds cloudmap???

Fast follow up.
I just finished the download and plugged the 4k.dds cloudmap in as Earths default clouds and no problem.
The cloudmap is intact. So it has to be at your end sadly to say. What version of Windows are you using if you are using? If you are using Linux or Mac OS X I can't help any further. But if you are in Windows make sure you are using the latest version of NVidia's Detonator 40 drivers. If are you are using Windows XP make sure when installing them you force XP to use them instead of the default drivers. The latest drivers are WHCP certified so XP shouldn't gripe about installing them. But if you are using the often bleeding edge drivers that get released they are not WHCP certified then you may be having a problem with them. It’s really hard to nail down what is going on or what isn't going with your setup without a little more data. In Celestia's Help menu there is an option called OpenGL info. If you click that it will list all the OpenGL drivers loaded that Celestia can use. I believe you can do a copy and past of the info into your browser and upload the info for us to see. That way someone with a little more knowledge then me can see if something is missing.
Of course if you are happy with the 2k version of the cloudmaps then you can ignore everything I just typed.

I just had to use them.

I also have 32 MB video memory and have the same problem with the 4k clouds. I think the problem is not the combined size of the textures (because I can use huge surface maps, though it makes it run very slowly, and I see the same white ball effect for small surface textures as well), but that cards like this just cannot handle cloud maps > 2k. Too bad...
