Two Asteroids, Two Textures.

Post #1by ElPelado » 28.06.2003, 12:11

After seeing a TV program yesterday, some ideas come to my mind.
1)We all know that one of the theories tells that a big asteroid hit the Earth 65 million years ago and killed the dinosaurs. I saw in the program that the asteroid(maybe its all fiction) came from i don't know where, passed near the sun changing his orbit, then near Mercury changing his orbit again, then near the moon changing his orbit a little, and then it crashed here. so the point is: DOES ANYBODY WANT TO MAKE A TEXTURE BEFORE, AT THE MOMENTO AND AFTER THE HIT OF THAT ASTEROID(INCLUDING THE BLACK CLOUDS OF DUST)??? AND MAYBE THE .xyz FILE TO MAKE THE ASTEROID ORBIT?? MAYBE IT COULD ALSO BE USED IN THE NASA EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM...

2)Then they talked about the asteroid belt and jupiter. they said that without jupiter, there wouln'd be life here now. they showed an animation with a time step of 1 million year/sec and they showed how lots of asteroids crashed into jupiter. it was amazing to see how jupiter didn't change at all. then they talked about the Shoemaker-Levy comet that hit Jupiter, they said that this is an example. they explained: because jupiter is the biggest planet, he absorved all the small asteroids that might have came to here(or to mars or to venus). so they said that till now we were lucky, but maybe, someday, that luck will finish, and an asteroid will hit the Earth.
SO, DOES ENYBODY WANT TO MAKE A TEXTURE TO SHOW HOW THE EARTH WOULD LIKE IF AN ASTEROID HIT IT??? WITH THE BLACK CLOUDS OF DUST AND ALL OF THAT???

Sounds like your TV programmes were a bit misleading - the bulk of the minor objects Jupiter cleared from the inner solar system didn't hit the planet - they were simply perturbed into hyperbolic orbits that departed the solar system. The other giant planets were involved in this process, too.
