Really High resolution.

If anyone has access to really high resolution data - I mean 60k by 30k,
preferably as tiff, I can put them up at a fast access point. I am interested in the earth moon and mars as add ons to our project which in some way parallels celestia. the idea is to make an electronic globe that can automatically zoom with the proper resolution. If you have very fast bandwidth you can try looking at a pre-pre beta:

The product is listed as BMV 0.8.6

Alan:

one piece of information perhaps in this direction. Since some time I am working intensively with Mario Rossi, the owner of the Space-Graphics.com site, on a new technology to exploit the /full smoothness/ of the 16bit/channel, 64pixel/degree, most recent finalized MOLA Mars elevation data (23k).

Our results so far are simply spectacular. You sure know that a basic problem consists in the fact that most image manipulation software as well as Celestia are not yet able to handle 16bit grayscale or equivalently 48bit RGB data. The idea we are pusueing is well known from other fields like CCD astronomy: By stacking and blending many randomly 8bit dithered textures in an optimized manner, one may virtually achieve 16bit quality with 8bit software...;-)

Danke Fridger!

This is for a parallel project we are working on that would be a planet data viewer. the idea is that the planet texture is the 'page' that other data can be displayed on as layers. This is more like a dynamic GIS.
Our first effort will be for earth using the Blue Marble data set, and etopo
for elevation. I suggest you take a look at the preview. Since the detailed
texture maps at one time have to be big raw files, I thought it would be good to put them up where people can get to them easily.
