I noticed that the surface position in your Mars texture is different from the texture that comes with Celestia.
Which is the correct one?

This depends on the version of Celestia you use. If you use a recent one >= 1.2.5 (I think), then the Mars texture in my TextureFoundry needs a Rotation/Offset (which is trivial to do). There will be a major update soon. The textures in the TextureFoundry have not been modified during the last 9 months. Earth has still the correct orientation, however.
