Grand Tour Uranus and Neptune Satellites

Post #1by Shadow-Dragon-777 » 18.03.2022, 20:45

Beyond Saturn lie 2 more planets which have been visited by only one spacecraft, Uranus and Neptune. These two ice giants are nothing short of strange, it is fortunate they have adequate textures in celestia. Their moons however are even stranger and were only partially mapped by Voyager 2.

First up is the Uranian system with its 5 main moons.
Miranda is if anything a jigsaw of geologic features. Once thought to have been blasted apart, it is now though these coronae were formed by ancient volcanism.

Next up is Ariel, a moon criss-crossed by massive rift valleys and could harbor activity like Saturn's Enceladus

Third is Umbriel, a moon so cratered the lunar farside is in competition

Fourth is Titania, the largest moon and cut by valleys like Ariel

Last is Oberon, a moon uninteresting save for dark spots amid ray craters

Of Neptunes moons, Triton stands out. The moon was the grand finale of Voyager 2's planetary discoveries. It has an atmosphere of clouds, and geysers. Elsewhere, the moon looks like a cantaloupe with youthful terrain amid icy knobs.

This fills in the planets that since 2017 have had no spacecraft currently orbiting them or on their way to flyby them.

GRAND TOUR URANUS AND NEPTUNE DOWNLOAD

This addon contains:
1K Puck texture
8K Miranda texture and normal
4K Ariel texture and normal
1K Umbriel texture
2K Titania texture and normal
1K Oberon texture
1K Larissa texture
4K Proteus texture
16K Triton texture and normal

As well as geologic maps of each except Umbriel and a topo for Proteus

Nightside data has been added to Miranda, Ariel, and Titania, making this the most complete coverage we will see of these moons until someone sends a probe to orbit these 2 planets.

This has been updated to include a larger Triton Normal as well as an updated Triton texture Schenk released back in Spring. Geologic maps are included for all of them except Umbriel and a topo for Proteus.

This has been given a MAJOR update
Normals have been edited to where there isn't a major cliff around mapped terrain anymore.
All 6 round moons have had small amounts of terminator data excluded in original map data reintroduced. This is most notable on Miranda where a few new craters and cliffsides are revealed by the reintroduced data. Uranusshine data better projected and brightness adjusted.
Textures added for Puck, Larissa, and Proteus. Though Voyager 2's mapping of the former leave much to be desired.
Clouds added to Triton including plumes.
