An idea... have you thought about using noise to blend between multiple different color ramps? You'd be able to get a lot more color variation, and start to lose some of that synthetic feel procedural textures usually have.

i think the colors need some work
this reminds me of venus (without clouds) more then io

i think you should compare io and your io-like and fix up the colors...

and i am not the fan of that procedual texture (no offence)

This actually got me curious, and I decided to use Grand Designer (the software that cubic used to make his star textures) to make some procedurally generated Io-like textures (which are not gonna be released as this is a test).

Here are the results:

I wasn't able to have some features on the texture like the red rings, but eh. It is what it is.

Actually, now that I made this, I feel like doing other textures similar to moons in our solar system.

Funny you should mention Grand Designer...

These will probably show up in M83 eventually. I find it a lot easier to reference the enhanced Voyager/etc. colors than desaturated "true-color" images. All the subtle details of the terrain stick out where I can see them. Precise photometric realism doesn't really concern me here: if I want pretty moons, I will have pretty moons. It doesn't hurt to remember that these are fictional, after all. And it's totally fine to throw in landforms that don't exist on the real Io, but still fit the "sulfur-blasted volcanic wasteland" theme.

Also, protip: you can add red ejecta rings by modeling the volcanoes as craters, and putting a red band in the gradient. Then adjust the trails settings until the rays turn into rings.
