A good texture for celestia is a seamless texture (other then joints created by different data strips like titan).

What makes a BAD texture a BAD texture?
Bad textures have seams running from top to bottom and polar pinching.
fig 1.png
you can see a very obvious seam in this texture

this is just showing polar pinching on the north
bad textures have this issue on both poles

You don't want any seams like these in your textures. :fie:

A good texture has no seams "(other then joints created by different data strips like titan)"

(this is a topography map of miranda)
as you can see you don't see any seams running through top to bottom in this texture

some of the land features in this topography map may be mistaken for polar pinching but there is no polar pinching here

BONUS INFO you need to know
A good resolution for good textures is 1k+ resolution (depending on what your PC can handle)

(some time i'll post a tutorial on how to make good textures without the seams as described in the bad texture part of this post)
