Earth street-level VT data files?

Folks,

I searched for some earth texture packages but they have only few LOD levels (4-5).

Orbiter 2016 is doing LOD level 19 to see street-level textures that is designed for landing, taking off and launching. That hold 32GB data files.

Does anyone have deeper LOD levels of earth textures for Celestia like Orbiter 2016 data files?

Thanks,
Tim

http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/earthcloseup.php

Includes higher resolution VTs for specific regions.

depending on the detail level and the amount of it
a 4 Terabit file might be needed

my venus map is 12.8 gig COMPRESSED and it is 128 k ( 131072 x 65536 ) and 24 GB uncompressed

you can make your area using Qgis ( under the GPL } and it handles google map kml files
this then can be mapped into areas taken from a enlarged earth texture

Orbiter 2016 is using 32GB packed compressed data files (76 GB uncompressed data files when unpacked and uncompressed) that give much clear textures when you are landing, taking off and launching across lands.

Ok, I got it. Thanks for Venus package. I will look into that. I have new star VT files that I recently downloaded.

I googled and researched some sources. I learned that street-level VTs requires extremely large dataset like 4 TB data files(!).

I looked into Blue Marble and Landset datasets. Blue Marble can hold 6-7 levels (128K pixels). Landset 7/8 can hold 10 levels (1024K or 2048K) that Orbiter 2016 use for low flying and LEO.

I can download Blue Marble data sets easily. I am still figuring how to download entire Landset 7/8 data sets. With Landset 7/8 data set, it hold wider bands so that you can see regular or false color (with infrared bands). For higher LOD levels, use DOQ datasets.

Celestia VT routines needs to be expanded to handle thread-separated texture loader for big data.

Does anyone know how to obtain landset 7/8 data downloads?

Thanks for Qgis, I will look into that soon.

That's why most VT extensions are for local areas, not the entire world. Accurate, high resolution maps and images of local regions are readily available. Also, don't forget that (generally speaking) ~3/4 of the planet is water, looking identical to all other watery surfaces, and can be reduced to a negligible VT size.
