3ds texturing model

After I managed to put my model in celestia now I have texturing problem, here it is;

I edited the texture picture to 512x512 and in cinema 4d I textured the solar panels, but the problem is i exported the model from solidworks so its complicated and so many meshes are formed when I export it to 3ds. Anyway after exporting it to .3ds I put it in models folder and edited the ssc file and put my texture jpg to medres folder(by the way while I was texturing in c4d i used the picture from celestia medres directory) after that when I run the celestia it covers the whole satellite containin even the antennas, and I also tried to delete texture indicating line from ssc file, this time solarcells became totally invisible on the model, next I tried to change it .cmod but in cmod file type its also all over covered and I if delete texture line in ssc and run with cmod this time the model turns totally black! what is the problem? I just have 1 day left for delivering the animation please help :idea:

I'm not familiar with the 3d modeling programs you are using so I'm not sure this will work.
Try to export the model to a waveobject (.obj) if this option is available. If so, Anim8or is a 3d program that is freely available. You can import the .obj file into Anim8or and export to 3ds. This sometimes will work depending on the .obj file.

This is because you specified Texture in the SSC file. A Texture declaration replaces the textures used for all diffuse materials.

Textures applied to model meshes are specified in the diffuse material definitions in the 3D modelling program. This causes the texture image file names to be included within the 3ds model file. (Only the name of the texture image file is specified in the 3ds model file, not the name of the directory containing the texture image file. This is why Celestia always looks in /textures/medres. 3D modeling programs usually expect to find the texture image files in the same directory which contains the model file.)

and I also tried to delete texture indicating line from ssc file, this time solarcells became totally invisible on the model,

A blank model with no surface texture means that Celestia could not find the texture image file specified in the model file, or that the surface texture image file is unusable, or that no diffuse surface texture image file was specified within the model file.

next I tried to change it .cmod but in cmod file type its also all over covered and I if delete texture line in ssc and run with cmod this time the model turns totally black! what is the problem? I just have 1 day left for delivering the animation please help :idea:

Again, the model being black means that Celestia is drawing only the default material color: either it cannot find the surface texture image file or the surface texture image file is unusable for some other reason.

CMOD files generated by 3dstocmod are plain text. You can use your favorite text editor to examine the .CMOD file to see what textures and materials are specified.

Another thing you should do is to look at the contents of Celestia's "console message log" to see if it has any error messages. You can see it by typing a tilde (~) to Celestia while it is running. Tilde = shift ` on most keyboards. On keyboards which support diacritical marks, you may have to type a <space> after typing the tilde.

thank you everybody, after all I found a solution at least, deleted the texture line from .ssc and created random textures defined by the 3dmax program without using external images, when I convert to 3ds it remembers the colors in celestia, so It looks pretty nice although it would be nicer to place externel jpegs on the satellite

Orcun,

It's good to know that you found a work-around.
Is there any chance you could make your Addon publicly available?

yes, i think i can, i will ask the institue first, and if they say ok i ll share it :D

my illustrating video is also ready now i will upload my page and share it here, it looks cool i used several rendering programs to create. 8)

cheers
