Pinch pole question

Hi

Using Adobe Photoshop CS2, I experimented with various buttons and tools in an attempt to create a rocky texture for a planet. I found a way to create one however now I am stuck on how to remove the pinch pole effect and a nasty seam line. Below is the planet rendered in "polar coordinates". I have already looked at the tutorials for textures thread, which does have a tutorial on removing the pinch pole, however I follow it and when I try to remove it I get a seam. Then when I fix the seam line, I get a pinch pole again. Could anyone explain how I could get rid of the pinch pole without getting a seam?

Well i use only gimp so ill tell u how i do it there:

for the seam line go to Filters>map>make seamless, if texture is a sort of map of some world u'll have to do it manually as making it seamless will distort a specific map.

for the polar pinch i go to filters>distort>polar coodinates, then manually remove it by blending and pasting or stuff, then redo polar cordinates but untick "to polar", then cut the pole and paste it on an untouched texture and blend in the edges, do the same for the other pole but remember to use "map backwards" in the polar cordinates dialog.

Look at the date of the thread... Once this kind of useful tips for newcomers was sticky but seems they were lost when the board was switch to PHP3... (BTW, it's why some text is glitched in the thread...)
