I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't get highres texture to work.
I've been trying serveral times to put the ddsfiles into the texture\medres map but when I start Celestia You only see a bad texture.
It seems that the program cant read the highres files.
I have the latest version of Celestia.
I have Asus Geforce 4 Ti V8420 graphic card. I can view these file by using the Asus VR picture Viewer.
Is there anybody who can help me before I get insane.

Are you editing your *.ssc files? You need to make sure that Celestia is actually trying to use the new DDS texture.

Check your OpenGL info under the Help menu in Celestia...maybe post the info here that will let us know if you have a card that accepts DDS format...
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

He's got a GeForce4 Ti, which definitely will support DDS textures. I suspect the problem is that solarsys.ssc needs to be modified for the new texture names.

Thanks to you all.
I modified my ssc-file and it worked.
I realy would be glad if you told me where I can learn/read about
the basics of this excellent program.
I tryed to change the moon.jpg with the larger file you can download from itt-site but all I got was a black hole??

Thanks again!

Bob,

Celestia can only use image files with sides that are a power of two: 256x256, 1024x512, 4096x1024, etc. I suspect the surface map you're trying to use has different dimensions. You can use your favorite graphic utility package to scale the image appropriately, although the results won't be good as if the map were the right size to begin with.

Just about any paint program can do the rescaling for you. Also, there are quite a few freeware packages available that'll do the job. I often use ImageMagick's "display" program.

I hope this helps.
