Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster. I'm trying to import one of the ISS .3ds models into 3ds but can't get the textures to come over. Is this possible? Thanks!

I have no experience with Autodesk's 3DS, but...

What is the exact error message?

Have you verified that the image files are in the directory where it is looking for them?

Have you verified that it can read the image files by applying them to another model?

Have you verified that the image files it can't load actually are the image files that are needed?

(There was mention that some of the textures are specified in materials that aren't actually used by the model.)

Basically the model and the textures are in one folder, it's the ISS and texture pack. When I import into 3d Studio Max, the model shows up fine, but none of the textures are applied. I would hate to have to put them all on manually, I was just wondering if there was a way to get them to show up on the model in 3ds.

This may be a more appropriate 3ds question, but I felt someone here might have some experience with it, seeing as how they have to create the models and textures in the first place.

The reason I'm trying to do this is because I'd like to export the model as a .x file for a different program.

Thanks!

Sorry: if 3DS Max isn't generating any error messages, I don't know what to suggest, other than consulting with a 3DS expert.

Krisci,if you copy the 3ds files into the same folder as the textures and then import to 3ds Max it should then load the texture links into Max.To get them to show on the model, you need to use the Material editor to instance all the materials (in the editor) and then click the button for each texture to show in the scene.Even if you dont do this though the textures should show when you render the scene in Max.Any more questions email me jestr@ntlworld.com

Got it to work. I used the eyedropper tool to click on the parts, and it then told me what texture was supposed to be there. I then had to relink the bitmaps. A little time consuming but it's done. Thanks!
