Earth-like Textures Made with FWE

The 'FWE' stands for Fractal World Explorer, which comes with AstroSynthesis. Now that I've found Celestia, FWE is really the only part I use any more. You can do a lot with it with some effort. If you get it, just keep 2 things in mind: The 'Shading Exaggeration' and 'water/wind erosion' settings are very important. Also the order in which you execute processes can have totally different results...like say, you 'water-erode 200,000 years' and THEN decrease the shading exaggeration, the result is totally different than if you do it the other way around.

Anyway, here's an Earth-like terrain.

Thank you for the texture!

I just received a copy of the FWE and have been playing with it the last 45 minutes.
Can it make non-earth like worlds too?

Yup! Gas giants can be tricky, though...

If you look at my add-on thread ('in progress', or something like that), you can see some of the things I'm doing with the program. If you think outside the box, it holds many surprises. It's definirely one of those programs that awards the curious experimentor.

Nice texture. But a one question- where could I get Fractal World Explorer? Downloadable?

EDIT: Located, but it's only trial version available on the net. However, any other programs like that did you know?

There are several freeware fractal planet generators, but the commercial generators seem to create more realistic surface maps.

Some are listed at
