can some tell me how make this map look better, or better yet, can someone do it for me? Because this thing is terrible!

Why do you think it looks terrible?

That's exactly what you should expect to get when you use a simplistic fractal planet generator. Such images are very good "place holders."

More realistic images (whatever that means) require much more sophisticated (=expensive) software. Or a significant amount of artistic work based on photographs of real Earth terrain.

put that thing on a planet and you'll agree with me. And ofcourse I lack paint shop pro or photoshop.

I guess I'll have to settle with this for now, i will make them better if i ever get PSP or photoshop

Have you ever tried Gimpshop? It's free, and it's quite a powerful tool. I use it all the time.

it doesn't work for me, it freezes in the middle of it loading the fonts.

which program did u use to generate the map anyway?
most recent celestia win32-SVN-build - use at your own risk (copy over existing 1.5.1 release)

Wait longer. I have to wait about 1 minute or so at that point, but it will start up.

this program is beautiful. I just used the smudge tool around the edges of the continents, and it looks much better.
