Jestr,

I wanted to download some of your files but had difficulties in doing so because your ftp server at times dropped the connection. This is kind of bad when you are in the middle of downloading a huge file - I'd like to check out your VT files!

So I tried to download them via the Emule links you send earlier. And although I managed to download a few most don't seem to be online/visible to Emule recently. So it's back to the ftp server!

I am currently downloading the bestEarthNormal PNG.zip - let's hope it doesn't break! It is kinda slooooowwwww anyway! Is there any other way you could make those files available? I'd like to get the 1.6 GB file and don't want to restart a 99% download!

Also, I wanted to download two of the models I don't have yet (I think I have almost anything that is available out there for Celestia

So, how can I download the StarDestroyer(big).zip and Immense.zip files? They obviously need a login...

BTW, I have finally decided to set up my own Celestia website and start sharing some of the add-ons I have created soon - URL to follow. So I hope to become a lot more visible in the future! Stay tuned!

Hi Joachim,my FTP is limited by my max upload speed (10k/s),so if there are a few people connected it is shared out between them.I think you can resume your downloads if you get disconnected,I dont know why this would happen though,maybe try using FTP client software to connect.There is no login needed for the Immense or Star Destroyer,but I have a better version of Immense in my Vulcan System addon,all the best Jestr

thanks for the reply! That was quick! Where can I get the Vulcan add-on? When I go to your website (ftp://81.108.220.185/) now I get a logon screen right from the start (even though a transfer is still running on my other computer!).

Any ideas? How about those Emule links?

The Emule links are still OK ,but I cant seem to get a HighID no matter what I try,(I seem to have a mid ID at the moment-if this is possible)so it depends which server I'm connected to whether you can see my addons or not.If I'm connected to Razorback2(which I am at the moment),then people seem to be able to download,but if I get kicked off (because of ID)then it is not always possible to see them I think from other servers.It is unlikely to be any quicker though unless there are more sources of the same file,Jestr

regarding Emule: Do you have the latest version (0.42g)?

Also, the following (from the Emule Help) might be helpful. Do you have the corresponding ports open in case you use a firewall/proy/router etc.?

From The Emule Help:

eMule does not display the ID any further but shows the ID status by the globe in the lower right corner next to the connected server.

indicates a high ID in all netwerks
indicates a low ID in all networks

A high ID means the port chosen in Preferences -> Connections (default 4662) is open and freely accessible.

Whereas a low ID means this port is blocked or cannot be reached. This can be caused by firewalls, routers or proxy servers.
Having a low ID does not mean that no up- or download is possible but has several disadvantages:

- No IP is known of the machine eMule is running on therefore all requests like queue or connection requests to this client have to be routed over the server, the low ID client is connected to. This routing causes considerable amount of CPU load on the server thus reducing the maximum number of users the server can cope with. Lugdunum's servers limit the number low ID users or even ban them at all.

- Two clients on low ID cannot connect to each other, as it is not possible to route messages over two different servers. This will lead to less sources for the downloads

- On busy servers it may well happen that the messages gets lost and eMule misses important information about queue progression or download requests. This may lead to fewer credits and worse downloads.

Notes:
- The ID issue only affects message exchange between clients. Actual data transfer is still handled client to client.

- If it is not possible to get a high ID, it is better to connect to low user servers as they have more resources left to deal with it than the big congested ones.

- You can also get a low ID when the server you connected to, is too busy to answer properly, or simply badly configured. When you are sure your settings are ok and you should have a high ID, connect to another server. Run eMule and use this test script (thanks to TheDonkeyNetwork) to verify your configuration.

- If the ID is high, it does not matter how high it is. An "even higher" ID is not better or offers any advantages.

- If an ID is low, it does not matter how low it is. A low ID is a value less than 16777216.

for the last two weeks or so I have been trying to download those huge zip files of yours. It takes ages to download them but I have managed to get quite a few of them downloaded anyway. But just now I found out that the larege texture files I was still downloading (e.g. 64kJestrMarble.PNG(levels0-5).zip, bestEarthNormal.PNG.zip or 64kEarthJPG.levels0-5.zip) seem to have gone from your ftp site. Maybe because you have put new files in the StarTrek directory? Have you moved them somewhere else? I love to finish those downloads... I guess, that also explains why the Emule links haven't been working for some time now...

Daniel,you should be able to download them from here
ftp://81.108.220.185
using internet explorer(or similar),just right click on the file and copy to folder,but if you have problems try an FTP client software.
Joachim,people who were in the middle of downloading the PNG texture are still able to carry on with it,I just renamed it but didnt change the file other than this(maybe ED2k is the same?).I dont know how it works with the FTP resume function though.All the best Jestr

As for the downloads, I actually got most of the files via ftp as Emule rarely shows the files as available (that low ID problem, I guess?). Over the quite some time I had managed to build a 500+ MB chunck of a file in Emule but it hadn't changed in days. When I saw that the original files on your ftp serevr had moved I quit. Maybe I should have asked first! I guess I was too impatient....

As for the ftp, it is very slow but what is actually the bigger problem - at least for me - is that I get errors occasionally. Although I can resume the downloads (I am using Opera) usually one or two files in the zip are corrupt. It is not so bad when it is just a planet tetxure file (I can use another one). But if a model is broken I have to try again. So, all in all, it is really a very time consuming process.

But that all is going to change with a new faster and more stable server, right?

I dont know whats causing the errors Joachim,there are a lot of files downloaded OK (as far as I know )from my FTP-maybe try a different browser or FTP program to download-but things should be a lot betterwithin a few days,the only files I cant upload to the fast server are the big PNG Earth VT-keep watching the Forum about the fast site-its not just my addons,I think it will be just about everyones,Jestr

your ftp got a bit faster today, also some of the EMule links are downloading right now. So, I guess you could say things have improved a bit lately.

What's that site you are talking about? I might have some stuff to upload/share, too.

Any ideas on how to get a smoother transition, it takes about 15 seconds on my pc ( P4 2.8 mhz, Nvidia Geforce TI 4600, WinXp). Ive tried turning off everything except planets
