Hello Jestr.
Yes, it looks absolutely like Space Graphycs one, but I made all the clicking on the three alternate textures I have using right button, i.e. Normal, BlueMarble and 64k.
I see as usual the Normal and the BlueMarble ones, but the 64k gives the shown result.
This is the root of my Celestia, where I show the ssc and ctx files positions, and their script: 8O

Image.

Hope you'll find the error.
By and thank you for your help

Andrea as a quick experiment you could try changing the line in Earth part of 'solarsys' to read
Texture "JestrMarble JPG.ctx"
and put the ctx file and 'JestrMarble JPG' folder into your normal 'hires' or 'medres' folders. This should help narrow down the problem.Jestr

Ive just thought of something else which might be the problem-some people who have downloaded the ctx file from my FTP have had problems with them even though they work fine for me,try making a new one from scratch instead.Jestr

According to the name of your file, you have to change your JestrMarble JPG.ctx in this way :

replace

ImageDirectory "JestMarble JPG"

by

ImageDirectory "earth64k JPG".

I'm pretty sure you going to have an heartbreak browsing the Jestr's texture... which is, BTW, the best you can found.

If you want to improve it, think about downloading the normalmap from the same ftp site...

Here is my new root, hope I made no mistakes:

The result is that I have as alternate the Normal (that's the 64k, but a dark grey ball), and the BlueMarble working normally.

Thank you again for your effort to help me. :)

If you changed the line in solarsys.ssc you wont need the alternate texture,or to right click and choose it-it should just be displayed as your normal texture.I suggest this to track down where the error is happening-if it works alright as your normal texture then the error is somewhere in the altSurface.ssc.All you need to do after changing solarsys is put the ctx and the 'JestrMarble JPG' folder in the same folder (hires or medres),Jestr

Hi ANDREA, Try and move the "Earth 64k JPG" Folder to the root of "hires or medres folder", that should fix it,

your .ctx seems right, should be like..

VirtualTexture
{
ImageDirectory "earth64k JPG"
BaseSplit 0
TileSize 1024
TileType "jpg"
}

YAHOOOOOO Jestr, found it!
I made a mistake in the name of the textures foldes, look here:

Now I can make comparisons between 32k BlueMarble and your 64k, and here are the results:
64k
Image
BlueMarble

64k

BlueMarble
Image

In my opinion the image resolution increase is not so evident as one could suppose, anyhow now we can see the inner atolls of the Maldive big atolls, but the new sea color is worth the time needed to download this enormous texture. It is much more convincing of the too much green one of BlueMarble :D The images are all at the same distance, resolution and without any change except the reduction of dimensions. :)
I had not enough time to make other checks, but I think that the road of VTs can give us many more surprises and satisfactions.
Jestr, thanks a lot for sharing this very nice work, appreciated! :D
By soon

Andrea :D

Added later:
thank you to all the other guys that gave their help, you are very kind.
And yes, I'll download the Jestr's NormalMap, thank you.

Actually the biggest Blue Marble files are 1km/pixel so for Earth circumference approx 43.2k x 21.6k.I have just scaled it up to 64k for Celestia rather than scaling down to 32k-glad to hear you got it working it looks even better with Normal and spec map,Jestr

Actually I was 17 minutes quicker than Jestr ;-)

About your comparison : check the Sahara, north America, south America, and see the huge difference. The islands are less detailled in the Jestr version, because he didn't worked the texture it-self, what Mario (if I remember right) did with hers.

Hi Andrea,

don't forget to take a look at Southern UK. There are some pretty amazing level 10 vts.

Hello Dora and Psykotic, I gave a look to the places you told and, indeed, they are very beautiful, but ... Jestr will make more additions to the higher levels?
Just to say a stupid thing, probably,, the very nice additions made by Kinderino (to the 32k BlueMarble, alas!), could be used with some change in the 64k?
They are all 2k textures.

...this would be great, indeed!
I have installed both and have to switch between them to see all those nice add-ons (Hawaii, Southern UK, Pathagonia, North America Cities, Canada, Italy, Egypt and Israel, Cyprus...).

Hey Dora, me too, but you forgot the Arecibo Radiotelescope in Portorico! 8)
I'm sure that someone will find a way to use these textures in 64k.

I've converted the dds files to the png format (format I've downloaded to enjoy the greatest precision).

Yes go for those Andrea, also the night map is quite good, yes you can mix Jpg and PNG ,Dds ,so long as the format is written in ctx file for each of them.I had planned to map as much of Britain as was covered by the aerial photos at Multimap .com,but when I reached SE britain I realised the maps were slightly out with the Blue Marble and as the textures are huge I cannot stitch them together in Photoshop (max size 30000 pixels).Lately I have been trying to Georectify my maps of Britain in Global Mapper, without much success, next I try ER Mapper, hopefully I can get them aligned better and I will finish it off,Jestr
