New asteroid textures are great!

I just thought I should mention that the asteroid models beiing used in Celestia v1.2.5pre4 are, well, nothing short of beautiful. It's clear someone spent time getting the textures just right -- shading as well as details. They're a significant impvovement over pre3 and 1.2.4.

I spent quite a while simply watching Ida tumble in the sky over Dactyl.

It seems to me that it would be appropriate to add credits to the "About" popup.

They were made by Darkmiss . . .

There's a credit in the README, but you're right--the credits in the about box definitely need to be expanded.

Thank you Seldon :)

I did Make them, but i made them with the Luna-Cell Plug-in.
And it did take me a few attempt to get it how I wanted it.
I think I sent about three versions to Chris, in the end

But I can't really take credit for a program that generates it for me.

If you look in the user's gallery, you will see the other versions I made, too.
medium, Dark, and Ice.

I made three diferent shades of asteroid and used them in selestia
so not all mt asteroids look the same.

and I made the Ice texture for the comets.

Paul, don't sell yourself short: Being able to recognize and choose appropriate images does take some talent. I'd suggest that the credits include a mention of the tools that were used, too.

Asteroid textures

Hi Paul,

following the thread I figure you made the new asteroid textures. I once sent early, but real ones to Chris together with their 3D shapes.
(They still can be visited on OpenUniverse.org but obviously didn't went into Celestia as textures, I think.)

As far as my understanding goes you created the new generic models. Is that true?

If so my question would be if it would be possible to you to use existing textures with fixed topographic details as a base for improvement with Lunar Cell?

If so I'd suggest to redo e.g. Phobos and Deimos as well as ca. 5...10 other minor bodies if your tiime permits...

Take care, :D

Sorry Axel I had nothing to do with the models

I just generated a new Asteroid texture, and sent it to Chris
then he asked me if he could use it.

I dont have much experience with Paint Packages or 3D modeling programs.

Existing asteroid TEXTURE improvement with Lunar Cell?

Sorry Paul,

I really intended to talk about the textures, not the models. They're generic for asteroids in Celestia AFAIK anyway.

So if you think you could improve existing Asteroid textures from a diff source with Lunar Cell and keep their existing major features tell me so :)

Take care,
Axel
