Editing & saving earth16k.dds

Post #1by SVW-Gigant » 15.12.2005, 02:41

Hello all together!
I have searched for this topic, but i havent found infos about it in German Forums and at Google so i have created a new... Sorry my English/American is not very good
My question: I have loaded the earth16k.dds for Celestia and the map looks very good ;) But i thing it is to dark! So i have edited it with Irfanview 3.97 but it can not save dds :( on PS7 by my father and with the dds-plugin the PS7 dont open/save a such big file, because it is ca. 89 MB big (smaler files like 130 KB does it oben and save)! But i want to give the earth16k.dds more brightness... With a jpg file, my machine runs very slow, so it must also be a dds.
Can anybody help me or say, how the Author has converted a such big image to dds?
thx for your answer!

f??r die Deutsche(n) hier: ich m?¶chte wissen, wie man eine 89 MB-dds erstellen kann, aus einer Vorlage einer jpg zB.. Gru??

Image editing should be done in a lossless image format like BMP, PNG or TIFF. It should be converted to DDS or JPG only as the very last step after all the editing has been done. Most DDS formats have a reduced color palette. They have fewer than 8 bits in some of their color channels.

In other words, you need to ask the author of the surface texture for a copy of the original texture image and work on that. The newest version of Nvidia's utility nvdxt can handle very large images.

Regarding the coloration and or brightness of the Earth texture in question, there is a lighter version on Earth called PaleBlueDot on my Earth Central website at http://www.celestiaproject.net/~impulse/Earth_ ... ntral.html
I think it will more to your likeing. As for altering any of my textures at the pixel level for any reason that is not not allowed as it violates my copyrights and those that have data that I included with permision .

I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.
