It works, but you must to have a MSN hotmail account

Post #5by High Dark Templar » 27.08.2002, 18:06

It works, but you must to have a MSN hotmail account to download. I am sorry but until Bruckner upload the model in his site this is the only way I have to put in on the net.

MSN communities need a @hotmail.com e-mail to join sorry again it is not my faul :(

At last the Black Hole model has been poster in Bruckner site. All people can download it from:

http://bruckner.homelinux.net/addons.html

The direct link is:

http://bruckner.homelinux.net/files/hole.zip

:D

It is very good and accurate ( without relativistic effects ofcourse )
Download and enjoy

Maybe I will post soon a scc with all the star size confirmed black holes.

New Version of the Black Hole model v1.2

Post #9by High Dark Templar » 29.08.2002, 01:28

DARK WORLDS presents: Black Hole v1.2

I have been working on it a little more and now:

The accrection disk is more realistic because it semi transparent ( like a real gas must be )
Texture centrated
A minor testure bug corrected if entered in the hole
Resize Acrection disk more accurate with the reality.

Thanks to the people who has been e-mailing me; for these and all the others a new better version has come, it will be soon in Bruckner's site:

http://bruckner.homelinux.net/addons.html (Gracias Bruckner)

8O And for the impatients with a hotmail account it is now in:

http://groups.msn.com/CelestiaFiles

No screenshots this time because only could be seen for hotmail users.

Keep on voting in the poll please

Thanks to my girlfriend for the help in the texture and model improvements.

One small suggestion . . . You *should* be able to make your mesh partially transparent. I think that would make the accretion disc look even nicer . . .

The New model has a semi transparent acrection disk

Post #11by High Dark Templar » 29.08.2002, 02:02

Thanks Chris it is a pleasure have a message and a suggestion for you, the creator of this wonderfull program.

The New model v1.2 has a semi transparent accrection disk, that was the first suggestion of my girfriend so it has been done. I hope it looks better for all people and as soon as posible will be posted on the Bruckner's site.

Thanks to all. I keep working in this, protoplanetary accrection disk with protoplanets, and the long way project, the REAL star system creator
( You know taking into account all the physical variables and the last planetary formation theories )

Here goes my cudo's and critique's.. First of all, great job in making the black hole! However, the accreation disk I think is a little unrealistic as the currenty theory would have it that the closer gases orbit to the event horizon the hotter they are and hence the redder they glow until they're so hot that at or very near the event horizon, the gases glow white hot but because of the proximity of the massive gravity well, also glow reddish in color. Think of the colors associated with any main sequence star on the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram going from Class M which is the reddest to Class O which is bluish and hottest, and that should give an indication as to the correct theoretical color model of an accreation disk. Of course this is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

How the Black Hole model must be

Post #16by High Dark Templar » 01.09.2002, 01:40

Yes you are partially right, the accrection disk is going from red to blue because:

inner radius -> higher gravity -> higher rotation speed -> more friction -> higher temperature -> blue color (and brighter)

1.- But... The gravitational redshift produced by the impressive gravitational field, turns in the very very close proximities of the DH all colors to red and darker.

2.- The fall of the mass in the DH produces two ejeccted mass cones in the poles but ONLY if there is a great ammount of mass falling down

3.- Finally all the stars near the back line of sight of the DH are (visualy desviated) to the proximities of the event horizont

To conclude:

1 and 2 will be implemented in future version of the Dark Hole model
3 is impossible to make in Celestia so... not wait this please

In few days in my new web page

http://usuarios.lycos.es/darktemplars/Index.html

I will put NASA model and screenshots of all this topics and the future references for the other projects.

The Star System generator v0.1 is avaliable to download in my web now but it only generate Stars. No planets nor moons. So in this moment have no practical use for Celestia but it will have in a few weeks

http://usuarios.lycos.es/darktemplars/D ... stem01.xls

Here is a screenshot. It is very easy to use.

Thanks to all people for the ideas to implement the Black Hole model

I just downloaded the black hole model but jrobert has beaten me to it with the comments ! Plus you replied only a few minutes ago so I can't really add much. Any possible way of making the inner edge of the disk spin faster than the outside ? More plausibly, it would be nice to eliminate the join between the edges of the texture.

For some reason, the alpha layer in textures does not seem to work for me in textures, except with the rings of saturn. Any idea why ? Should I post this on the bugs section instead ?

Hi, I want to give a suggestion.

I don't know if this is certain, but I've heard that the black holes throw out hot material from the two poles.

I think this is improbable, because the high gravity, but it can be seen in MS space simulator...
The universe contains, matter and energy,
stars and planets, and earth's technology.

Black Hole V1.5

Post #20by High Dark Templar » 02.09.2002, 23:08

Thanks for all the suggestions: I must comment some things.

First of all, I am not a 3D model or texture-maker expert my knowledge is quite limited ( these are the first 3d model and texture I have ever make in all my life ) but my physics and astronomy knowledge are much better.

Second one abut the gravitational redshift. I had made a table to see the effect on very hot blue gas in the proximities of the Blach Hole and this is the result:

Dist. Redshift lambda Color

infinite 0.0 4800 A Blue
10R 0.05 5040 A Blue-Green
8R 0.07 5136 A Green
3R 0.15 5520 A Yellow
2R 0.41 6768 A Red
1.5R 0.73 8304 A Infrared
1.1R 2.32 15936 A Invisible
1.01R 30.25 150000 A Invisible

So my model is incorrect, :? the pattern in the disk must be from outer to inner: red-white-blue-green-yellow-red-black

I can fix this, but maybe the Black Hole will not improve its "beauty" but its reality.

Third one about the polar jets. These jets are much more common in the central galaxies Black Holes when these are actives (are surrounded by a lot of gas) and only if there is a strong magnetic field (the gas escapes trough the magnetic field lines) producing very long bright gas jets. maybe star size black holes could have jets but I think (only think) this is not the most comoon think. :?

But I will work in the jets in the future, I am doing a neutron-star model so I can use the neutron star beams for the BH

Fourth and last one. I am doing the planet generator chart now so I have not very much time to the next version of the BH for the moment but I will pass the next week the work about the texture to my girlfriend (she is a graphic designer and will do a better job than me)

Thanks all for the suggestions. :D
