using MRSID data ?

has someone consider the mrsid data ?

https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/mrsid.pl

that data are the more accurate data on about all the entire earth i've seen on the Net.

To download then
1°)you can zoom the map by choosing 2x , 4x, 8x, ... (4x is enought)
2°)You can move on map by selecting "pan"
3°)check that you data is landsat 7 Circa 2000
4°) Now, check the box "select Image"

if you select with the mouse a windows on the map a new window will be opened and you will have the ability to download a file (a big one) of this area

That kind of file can't be read under you internet browser with a plugin you will found here:
http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_d ... atform=win

you can load the previous downloaded file with the browser and then you will see the map.

You have the ability to zoom in. eatch zoom in is by a 2x factor.
And by rightclick with the mouse, you have the ability to save an picture in PNG,GIF, TIFF with TFW,JPG and BMP formats (context menu)

So could it be possible to make virtual textures of high level with that data ?

The texture i see have not exactely the true colors and i don't know how they where obtained.

Is it possible to make postprocessing on them to obtain again true colors ?

for a paris town picture taken from that data look here

Guest,

1) Currently Virtual textures do not allow for that much detail but Chris is actively working on a fix for this.

2) The data you are looking at is in false color; I don't think you can easily convert it to true color.

3) There are much better ways to get the same data in true color to the same level of detail. Try Nasa's WorldWind project. Currently the Landsat 15m data is offline due to a flood of traffic but in the next month it should be brought back online. By that time Celestia may be able to handle the extra detail levels. When that happens I'll make sure there are some tutorials for how to convert worldwidn data into Celestias Virtual textures (it is very easy.) In the meantime, the Worldwind community has enourmous caches of high resolution data available for download; including much of europe. So check it out.

BTW, did anybody check the copyright on the Worldwind data? That would become important if such a VT was made available...
