I had an idea about THE problem :
How can we distribut a highres pack without crashing a server...
What about using a File Sharing Program like KaZaA or Edonkey or anyone else ?
They were not there only to share B.Spears mp3 or Adult Movies Divx...
If there's a lot a people intersted in those files, why can't we use this ?
We just have to agree about the name we give to the packs with a specific patern, for example :
-Celestia- EarthPack.gz
-Celestia- MarsPAck.gz
so the user just have to search for "-Celestia- patern trough the KaZaA network to get them...
It will be hard at the begining but can be really efficient about one month later.
You'll just have to put instruction on the celestia web site :
"How to download high res pack" bla bla bla...
And that' it !
What do you think about that ?
I have unlimited acces to internet that can make 16K maximum upload and I'm ready to make ONLY those packs avialable for download in file sahring programs. I think (euh.. hope !) I won't be the only one.
We just have to distribut the packs to 20(?) users in the begining via a restricted access to one fo your ftp, and then let the process begin !
It won't cost our "ass skin" to try !
