4 k Moon texture

Post #1by danielj » 28.07.2003, 22:00

I folowed the instructions and installed the normalMap of Moon(Mike Celestia?s page),but I don?t see any difference.In the site,he explain that the NormalMap have to be used together with the Moon4k,but I only see the instructions for the Normalmap.In the solarsys.ssc,I don?t know what I put below the Moon 4k texture.In other words,I am not knowing how to make the 4kMoon texture to function.
Other thing : I tried to substitute the moon.jpg for the moon4k.jpg.I deleted the first and rename the second.But it was strange because the Moon look like a full Moon seen from Earth and the craters are indistinct.How can I recognise the 4k texture?
Maybe I would try the 2k texture first.Is it better than Celestia default?

Make sure the moon code in the solarsys.scc looks like this
then make sure that the texture and normal files have the same name as the texture and normal entrys in the ssc file.

Code: Select all

"Moon" "Sol/Earth"
{
   Texture   "moon4k.jpg"
   NormalMap "moon-normal.jpg"
   Radius     1737.53
   Oblateness 0.002

   CustomOrbit "moon"
   EllipticalOrbit {
      Period            27.321661
      SemiMajorAxis 384400
      Eccentricity       0.054900
      Inclination        5.15
   }

   RotationOffset       43
   Albedo                   0.12
}
CPU- Intel Pentium Core 2 Quad ,2.40GHz
RAM- 2Gb 1066MHz DDR2
Motherboard- Gigabyte P35 DQ6
Video Card- Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS + 640Mb
Hard Drives- 2 SATA Raptor 10000rpm 150GB
OS- Windows Vista Home Premium 32

danielj... have you tried Jen's 8k coloured moon texture. It really is great and works well.

I tend to steer away from using bump/normal maps. I'm using ver 1.3.0 and I think there's an issue with using bump maps with this version. The latest prereleases slow my viewing down. I've only got a GF2 and this might be my problem here.

Just an idea...

Regards...bh.
