Europa BumpMap

Post #1by ElPelado » 16.05.2003, 11:30

i have made a BumpMap for Europa. Here are some images. Tell me what do you think about it.
i made it from a 1k europa texture, so if someone has a 2k or 4k to send me it would be grate.

Not bad, looks pretty good. When will it be available?

So have a look at Rassilion's site :

http://www.shatters.net/~rassilon/

Io direct download :

http://www.shatters.net/~rassilon/jim/io_co_4k.zip

That's a 4k texture.

I have said this before. Bummaping Europa is a mistake. Europa is the smoothest object in the solar system. If Europa were the size of a cue ball it would be even smoother than the cue ball. This is a completely inaccurate portrait of this moon.

I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

Definitely true, Don! Europa's ice needs some careful specular illumination, but certainly no bumping...

Hmmm... you know, I don't speak english very well, I read Io instead Europa, and... I promise, the next time I'll read BEFORE posting.

Perdona me El Pelado

Hey! I didn't see this post :P

I haven't worked on that texture since a few months because I never got happy with the results. My texture its a colorized and scaled down version from the 19K USGS Europa texture which has a lot of gaps at different resolutions due to the different missions of the Voyager craft. These gaps were more noticeable when using a specular map so I decided to get rid of them by re-texturing them, take a look:

Its far to a perfect result, but an good solution :?

May be it's time to retake some work on it
Greets :P

Nice work praesepe!

I hope the download size isn't too big!!

Now, this is probably a stupid question, so don't kill me, but- is this texture a true colour version, or is it different to how it would really look if you were looking at Europa in real life...?
The europa texture that comes with celestia is quite differently coloured to this one, so which is (more) correct...? There has been debate about this type of thing in relation to various new mars textures as well- so... wassup with all the different versions?

As a reminder from my TextureFoundry: the leftmost Europa is a truecolor photo, the rest is my textures...
(europa however now needs a rotation...)
