Well the poles have more problems that that ;-) . There are also many HRS and HIS special pixel areas. But some times I can confirm the gray inserts, too. Could be worse... Anyhow, near the poles the contrast is excessive (either black or white). From such a starting situation not much better is possible (at batch level).

Also there is that "black hole" in the South pole which looks pretty funny...

I'll turn to these regions next. Presumably the better strategy would be do add some hand editing at 32k level, computer colorate from the 5 band UVVIS data at lower resolution ... and be happy until new Moon data become available ;-)

Actually, it wouldn't be that hard to separate the areas with "crop" and make them smaller. Small enough to use with the Gimp at the 64k level. After the changes are made just convert back to isis cub and run uncrop.
You would have to run catlab after running crop to save the label info, convert to png with isis2std, make corrections with the Gimp, convert back to isis with std2isis, and then run editlab to reattach the label saved with catlab. After that run uncrop and it will put the cropped image back to the original 64k.

I installed the Gdal program,copy and paste the code and the cmd console didn?t recognize them.I think there is something that is missing in the instructions...

You DON'T NEED Gdal!

You should use cartrite's script and follow the instructions!!

If you want to install Gdal nevertheless, you need to enter the gdal PATH into the Windows environment in the standard manner, as detailed in the Readme,

NOTE: cartrite's script uses my F-TexTools! So you must first check whether you have another F-TexTools version installed. If yes, deinstall it as usual via the standard deinstall and then install the latest version from this link via the respective Windows installer that is part of my tools. You just click
Win32_PC.bin -> F-TexTools-2.0pre1.exe and follow the instructions.

At the end of the install you MUST reboot!

Next, you unpack cartrite's texture kit, READ the readmes and download the required input file

into the directory moon-vt\textures\hires\moon as specified in his readme!

All it takes then is to start the script... 8 minutes later you have a complete 64k VT set 'moon-vt' of the Moon that you only need to move to the extras directory.

t00fri, you might actually be proud of me... I finally figured out how to use your texture tools. The tutorials on this thread finally made it click :D

Going to be putting a lot of high-quality textures in Celestia today :)

I am really happy to read this "little" success report of yours! I knew you were going to get it done eventually ;-) . I am proud of you, since apparently my small amount of encouragement was enough to make you succeed all by yourself.

On the one hand, it is of course not an earthshaking success, but I know very well the feeling and the kind of struggle. On a somewhat different scale perhaps, but it's very similar in essence. Scientists love it and NEED it... every new problem makes you feel at first that this time the task was too big for you and you will never make it...and then every day, there is this nagging something until you succeed again. And if you fail one day, at least it was a good use of your adrenaline ;-) . It must be very similar with sports like mountain climbing, for example...

Now what I would really recommend next is to attempt a full set of 64k Earth textures, since these are just marvellous quality compared to the Moon data.
It's really not hard since now you know the "secret".... ;-)

Do you know where I might find that 64k Earth texture? I've been looking around, but haven't seen a download link anywhere.

In case of Earth, there is now the new challenge of doing a perfect 64k normalmap. It is in many respects the most important texture along with cartrite's beautiful high resolution map of the waterways. An important new aspect is the direct DXT compression option for the VT tiles. This makes operation butter smooth and the rendering meanwhile is indistinguishable from PNG quality on the screen.

I downloaded a slightly different texture map and the script made levels 0-5 all EMPTY.The texture I downloaded was UVVIS_Clementine_BaseMap_v2_II.jp2.
It?s a JPEG 2000 image with 927 MB.How can the script produce nothing?What I did wrong?

You don't want to listen....This file UVVIS_Clementine_BaseMap_v2_II.jp2 is the JPEG2 file for which you would need GDAL in order to convert it!

A few posts above I explained once more step by step what you should do to avoid using GDAL. Now my time is out. Sorry.

You may be using cartite's script and If I'm not wrong you must provide a binary input for it to work. Use Gdal to convert the original jp2 to a suitable format. It is well explained in this thread.

No,I download the other file,but something is not right.
The file is in .bin format.So,when I unzip,I get a VIDEO file and not a picture file.What can I do?

Did you download the 64k bin input file then? It's located right here -> http://www.celestialmatters.org/users/t00fri/files/Clementine64k.bin.zip

Although some players may recognize .bin files as video (such as VLC) (also depends on your file associations in your OS) this isn't. Just put it along with cartrite's script and the batch file will do the rest. Detailed instructions are also available in the readme file so it's worth taking a look to it.

How I PASS the file?
I have to put the file inside F-Tex Tools and then what?
The conditions as a video file is problematic.I run the bat.exe and it only produces the levels 0-5,all empty.
What is the normal?I know that Power of 2 is tx2pow2,but I don?t know which one is normal and where I have to put the file.
