Well the poles have more problems that that . There are also many HRS and HIS special pixel areas. But some times I can confirm the gray inserts, too. Could be worse... Anyhow, near the poles the contrast is excessive (either black or white). From such a starting situation not much better is possible (at batch level).
Also there is that "black hole" in the South pole which looks pretty funny...
I'll turn to these regions next. Presumably the better strategy would be do add some hand editing at 32k level, computer colorate from the 5 band UVVIS data at lower resolution ... and be happy until new Moon data become available
