Crater brushes for Photoshop

I would like to create some crater brushes for Photoshop. These crater brushes would be for creating bump maps, so these would not paint craters but instead would paint crater elevations.

To do this, I need to obtain a good high-resolution bump map of the Moon or Mars, with the bump map created from altitude data. The moon bump maps in the standard Celestia distribution appear to be created from photographic data and thus have some lighting defects, are JPEGs with compression artifacts, and do not have a high enough resolution.

I know that Normal maps would be better for use in Celestia, but bump maps are easier to create from scratch.

You can find a 4K PNG Normal Map on the Motherlode HERE.
This is from John van Vliet. For anything larger, you'll have to create your own I believe. Hope that helps.

I need a bump map, not a normal map. Maybe I need to convert between these formats. Any advice?

Sorry,
Did not understand what you meant I guess. The closest I can get you is the topic located HERE.
This does not feature any Bump Maps, but the people involved in the discussion can certainly give you the advice you need in order to do what you want I think.

Perhaps what you need is a height map for the moon. I typed in 'digital elevation map' & moon, and did not find the exact simple answer you might want.

However: here is a link: http://www.christian-woehler.de/lunar_dem.html

There was also the 'clementine mission' which comes near: http://simkin.asu.edu/clem/

Here's more: http://ti.arc.nasa.gov/projects/planetary/moon.php
http://www.lpi.usra.edu/publications/slidesets/clem2nd/

The last ones look promising, as it has toppraphy data, but will probably require real work.

Good luck
