strange orbit bug

hi all,
at first, yes i know orbits are not bugged but drawn inaccurately and yes i'm playing with CVS-code which is normal to include tons of bugs
i just felt this was somehow different from the usual orbit bug.
with 100 orbit-samples i see this:

after increasing the samples to 500 (and 1000) i see this:
http://www.purebytes.de/stuff/celestia/orbit_bug2.png
the funny thing is that i can't reproduce this with anything but our moon, and ideas on this? i thought noone has messed with the orbit-code for a long time...
