The opencluster.cpp file doesn't do anything much yet. Is anybody working on it now? Frank asked me to add commands to toggle them and their labels, which is easy. But I know of no addons with OpenCluster objects to see the toggling work.

Edit: I got a copy of openclusters.dsc from wayback and found I had a copy after all in another place. I set up O for toggling opencluster labels and o for general orbit toggling. It's easier to understand the display with different keys for galaxies, nebulae and open clusters. Would globular clusters be defined as galaxies?

Would it make sense to use '#' to toggle the openclusters themselves? Maybe it would once we can make circular markers for the clusters like the ones in star atlases, as suggested in the commeets in opencluster.cpp.

Edit: I found the global cluster file, which I didn't have before and they are defined as galaxies, because they're outside of galaxies and nebulae and open clusters are inside.

That's very strange: I tried it just now and it worked fine for me. Maybe the Web server had a glitch. Of course, you can get to the page by navigating down from my home page.

Astronomically, no. Calling them that was just a convenience with Celestia.

I have no strong feelings about that.

Actually, they're called that only because it's a way to cause Celestia to draw round blobs in appropriate locations. Dont forget that their orbits do eventually take them through the body of the galaxy. I think one or two are known to be doing that now.
