I see charts of objects and stuff on the internet that I can download and format into excel. Is there anyway to take a saved as text version of this database and converting it to ssc rather easily?

Heh, I wish. So far I've just done it by hand, just do a few whenever I have a couple of minutes to spare.

Chris mentioned XML as being the next format for Celestia's SSC and DAT files. I just hope that it's compatible with VizieR's AstroRes XML format, or some other astro-search-engine, or else having it XML will be about as useless (for extension) as the current format.

Actually if you can get the data into an excel file easy enough, just open it in access or export it to a commer delimited file...

for the access DB you could easily proccess it using a asp (php, etc) script.
or for a commer file just about any scripting or basic programming language could easily convert it to ssc.. mind you I talking converting ten plus planets (moons, etc) to make it worth the time.

Maybe I will do it.... like I will find the time .... but who knows.. :-)
