Bookmarks(Favorites) and celURLs

I wonder if there should be a convergence of these issues.

When I played with them, I found that they are completely different. While Bookmarks only store a position, but no render settings or time, celURLs does. But celURLs can't be accessed from within Celestia. You always have to start a second application to provide a URL call via OS to display them. When designing a tour-script it would be convenient to remember some central viewpoints via bookmarks - but only if render-setting would be retained also. By now you have to start a copy-paste session for every marked spot via celURLs. Bookmarks are almost useless in their current form, so why not merge their functionality with that of celURLs?

Any common agreement on that?

I agree. Adding parameters for resolution, FOV, and starviews (pinpoint/fuzzy/etc) would be great.

In the Linux version, bookmarks act more like celURL's (yet still don't include resolution or starview parameters, but does include FOV) then in the Windows version. Plus, it has a much improved ability to maintain and organize bookmarks.

In Linux the "bookmark" retains the FOV which I think it quite important as well.
I have many bookmarks of scenes that rely on a specific FOV. In Windows when I select the bookmark the scene is meaningless unless the proper FOV is "dialed-in" after the fact.

In Linux/Kde the bookmarks are in fact just a collection of cel URLs, so they behave the same because they are the same.

There are in fact three types of cel URLs, but you can generate only one of them (absolute) in Windows.
- Absolute URLs: Absolute Location + Time + rendering settings
- Relative URLs: Position relative to selection + rendering settings
- Setting URLs: rendering settings (no fov)

Hi,

What about the osX version? seems we have only one style of those linux bookmarks...
The others will be implemented?

The URLs are part of the core, so "implementing" them on any platform is just a matter of adding a menu entry or shortcut.

Thanks for the info Christophe - just wanted to know if the old style is somewhat obsolete. I'll gonna play with the code.
